When everyone else is locking their doors and crawling into bed for the night, Whitney Anderson is just getting started with her “workday”. As the owner of MADyartArt, Anderson gets to quietly sneak around town after dark decorating the front lawns of those who have something big to celebrate the next day.
To say that she loves her job is an understatement.
“It’s almost like I get to be the Easter bunny every day,” says Anderson. “Every time I drive away, I’m just so excited thinking about the recipient seeing the surprise.”
Yard Signs in Madison, Alabama
Anderson started MADyardArt in March 2019 when she saw a hole in the market for front lawn sign decor celebrations. Her handy brother-in-law got to work cutting out a few lawn items while Anderson did the painting. The first front yard she decorated was her own to celebrate her daughter’s 8th birthday.
“We decorated our yard with big doughnuts and candles, and from there the business just took off!”
MADyardArt loves celebrating all kinds of occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, retirements, and much more.
Anderson says that she has options for nearly every special occasion and that she can even create custom orders.
“If the order is placed well in advance, I’m happy to paint something extra special,” says Anderson.
Anderson says that painting is one of her “happy places” and has been a crucial activity in helping her recover from a slew of unexpected medical issues that came about shortly after she launched her business.
“Going into the garage to paint and create has been a great escape as I’ve healed. This business has really centered me.”
Anderson, a mother of three school-aged children, says that her yard sign business has exploded the last couple of months as community members have yearned for ways to celebrate their special occasions under the social distancing guidelines.
She says that she’s had people who couldn’t be with their parents but still wanted to be able to surprise them with something. She’s had many orders for children who had to cancel their birthday parties, but says that her front yard decor has also been a great addition to the classic quarantine drive-by parties.
“Our graduation set-ups have been really popular too!”
To get started with surprising a loved one with decor from MADyardArt, Anderson encourages potential customers to visit her website and shop around the variety of confetti she has available. (“Confetti” is the art pieces that one chooses in addition to letters and numbers, such as a doughnut, baseball bats, graduation hats, etc.)
Orders for front yard signs and decor can be placed entirely online, starting with the date selection. Decor stays up for approximately 24 hours, from set-up after dark the night before the event to take-down the evening of the event (unless a customer specifies that he or she would like it to stay up longer).
MADyardArt serves the entire city of Madison as well as surrounding areas for a small fee. Interested customers can find them via their website (it’s new!), Facebook, or Instagram.
