When I heard that Madison’s brand new Varicosity Vein Center offers completely free vein screenings, I didn’t want to just tell you about them, but I wanted to show you what these screenings are all about from personal experience.
I was an odd candidate (or so I thought) for a vein screening at Varicosity. I had no symptoms of varicose veins that I could put my finger on and am a relatively healthy 36-year-old. My legs are surely just fine, right?
“I’m just trying this out so that I can help someone else!” (Famous last words.)
Spoiler alert: It’s a very good thing I went to get a free screening. Keep reading!
I arrived at my Varicosity Vein Center screening and quickly filled out a little bit of traditional medical paperwork. I was quickly called back for my appointment and given a pair of comfortable, disposable shorts to throw on under my dress since I was about to have an extensive ultrasound of my legs!
Next up: Time for the ultrasound! The very kind and highly experienced PA shared a little bit of information about what she was going to be looking for, and within seconds of running the ultrasound tool on my right leg, it lit up red.
“I can already see some reflux,” she shares as my eyes go wide and begin paying closer attention to the screen so that I can see what she can see.
As she ran the ultrasound tool on both my right and left legs, red was popping up sporadically like heat lighting quietly lights up the night sky.
I was all ears now to everything the tech had to say and looked forward to meeting Dr. Randleman too to hear what his recommendation would be for moving forward with the reflux in my legs I had no idea about.
Your leg veins contain valves that help your blood flow to your heart. If a valve is damaged, blood cannot properly flow to your heart because gravity will take over instead. Blood will then flow backward, which leads to reflux.
Reflux typically has symptoms such as muscle cramps, restlessness, swelling, skin discoloration, itchiness, aches and pains, or feelings of heaviness.
After learning (and seeing for myself!) that I had a level of venous reflux disease, I had two immediate questions:
And here is a summary of the incredibly thorough response I received from the team at Varicosity Vein Center.
This appointment was throwing me for a loop because I wasn’t expecting to leave with some surgeries scheduled, but I was so grateful to have discovered such vital information about my health this way!
After some time consulting with Dr. Randleman, we determined that because I’m not experiencing any outward symptoms yet, he’d be comfortable with me not scheduling any procedures yet and then coming back for other screening in six months to determine if the reflux has significantly increased. If so, we’ll go ahead and schedule the necessary laser thermal ablations as a way of being proactive about my health instead of reactive down the road.
I left my appointment very grateful for Varicosity Vein Center’s extraordinary team and their free screening opportunity.

I’d love to share more with you about Varicosity Vein Center, which specializes in treatments for varicose veins, spider veins, and other vein diseases.
Varicosity Vein Center’s brand new Madison location is the second location in North Alabama; There is also a location in Huntsville.
Varicosity Vein Center is on a mission every day to offer a smooth patient process while also making veins disappear, and they excel at both!
One of the first questions that often comes to mind with anything health-related is “Will my services be covered by insurance at Varicosity?” The answer: it depends, but fear not, Varicosity’s got you covered! They’ll start with a free ultrasound screening to see what’s brewing beneath the surface. Cosmetic services, such as the treatment of spider veins, are typically an out-of-pocket expense, while procedures that treat varicose veins are typically covered by insurance.
Your free screening will help pave the way with your customized treatment plan though, making it worthwhile to learn what’s happening below the surface in your legs’ veins and discover what the right treatment is for you!
As far as treatments go, they are minimally-invasive, speedy, and out-patient. Most patients resume normal activities the very next day.
Regardless of your age or level of symptoms, it’s worth it to scratch the itch of curiosity and head to Varicosity Vein Center to learn about how you can stay ahead of any pesky veins issues and discomfort down the road. With a team that’s as friendly as they are skilled, and procedures that are as efficient as they are effective, your legs are in good hands—literally!
Three cheers for a fabulous new vein center right here in Madison! I think you’ll love their team!
