Sweet Repeats kid’s consignment sale is circling back around for its semi-annual local event and, despite a shaky moment in time, promises to be the successful event that regulars have come to look forward to and love.
Britney Starkey, owner of Sweet Repeats, says that this season’s sale will be slightly different in that they are doing everything they can to make the event sanitary and spaced out to provide socially-distant shopping from others.
What is Sweet Repeats Kids Consignment Sale?
Sweet Repeats is a kids consignment sale that allows others to buy and sell all sorts of children’s’ items, such as clothing, shoes, outerwear, toys, decor, furniture (no mattresses), electronic ride-on items, and much more. The sale happens twice a year: once around the end of February (the spring/summer sale) and again around the end of August (the fall/winter sale).
“We carry newborn through teenage items, though we do have much more younger kid items since older kids stay in clothing longer, wearing them out more. But we do have items for all ages,” shared Starkey.
Starkey says that Sweet Repeats was founded 14 years ago and that she purchased the store in early 2019 after being a dedicated shopper for years.
“It was the only consignment sale that I really counted on to buy things,” says Starkey. When the opportunity to purchase the business presented itself, Starkey says that she and her husband prayed about it and knew that it was something great.
Heading into her fourth sale as owner has her excited and ready for the community to come out to shop and/or make some money.
How to Consign
Consigners tag their own items, create their own prices, bring them to the store tagged and ready to be viewed, and then receive 70% of what the item sells for via a check after the sale is over.
Interested consigners can register on the Sweet Repeats Madison website and pay a $10 fee. This allows the consigners to tag up to 90 items.
Starkey shared that a whole outfit hung on one hanger is one tag, but if the consigner splits up the outfit into pants on one hanger and a shirt on another with separate prices on each, that is two tags.
Registration is available until the day before the sale as long as all items are tagged and brought to the store before the sale begins. Once the sale begins to those who are pre-shopping, they will not allow any additional consigners to bring their items.
How to Shop
Though volunteers and consigners shop the sale first, a general public pre-sale will be held on Tuesday, August 25th. Tickets to the pre-sale at $5 per person and can be paid for online. Shoppers will receive a two-hour time frame to shop.
Public sale dates are August 26th-29th, and admission is free!
