A reader recently requested a list of fun things to do around Madison that will get her family out of the house but still allow them to be socially distant. I loved this article idea because I, too, was interested in a list like this.
It didn’t take long to realize that there is a load of things to do around town that are not only fun and socially distant, but many that are free or cheap too!
Here are 13 ideas for getting out to have some socially distant fun in Madison, Alabama.
Visit a new park. Did you know that Madison has over 30 neighborhood parks? If you need a change of scenery from Kids Kingdom and Palmer Park, check out this interactive list and find a new place to play.
Complete the Trains on Main scavenger hunt. Grab the Clue Card from the Madison Chamber of Commerce website, head to downtown, and enjoy searching for a handful of tiny trains. We did this with our kids a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it! Great for adults and kids alike. It was more challenging than I expected!
Hike Rainbow Mountain. What used to be a local hidden gem is now a popular spot for a short, beautiful hike right here in Madison.
Pack a picnic and blanket and head to the gazebo downtown. This is one of our favorite places to picnic (as long as you try to beat the heat).
Discover Geochacing.
Hang out at Insanity. Mini-golf, the batting cages, and the skate park are now open until midnight on Friday and Saturday!
Visit the Madison Farmers Market. Social distancing protocols are in place for those who wish to come out on Saturday mornings between 8 a.m. and noon to shop the market at Trinity Baptist Church.

Play Disc Golf. Check out this article written last month that details a shortlist of places to get out and throw a disc around.
Sign up to visit the library. The Madison Public Library is open with adjusted hours and procedures to continue providing the community with ample entertaining supplies and resources. Please call to confirm the current procedures as they may have changed due to the fluid environment.
