Golden Phoenix Tattoo on HWY 72 in Madison opened earlier this year, and when asked how business is going, co-owner Brandie West says that it’s been “absolutely amazing”.
I’ve shared in a couple of previous articles (here and here) about the work I’ve done to learn all the ins and outs of Madison’s premier tattoo shop, and the family behind the business is top notch. It’s owned by a married couple with eight children, and they’re determined to break the mold of the tattoo industry, uphold the highest standards, and deliver products that exceed the expectations of their guests.
A new arm of Golden Phoenix that they are proud to offer is their piercing services.
West says that they now offer a large menu of piercing options that will yield great, long-term results.
Piercing options include anywhere on the ear, nostril, belly, septum, nipple, and lip.
“We do not and will not offer piercings that are high risk or have a high rejection,” says West regarding various piercing requests that they will not do.
West is in the shop nearly every Thursday and Friday and really enjoys accepting walk-ins if available. She advises though that one’s best bet for having a predictable, on-time piercing is to make an appointment ahead of time.

West says that this has been a slow-growing arm of Golden Phoenix due to the quality of training and certification she has worked hard to obtain in order to offer a great experience and product.
When asked what jewelry options guests have the option to pierce and leave with, West shares that Golden Phoenix’s number one priority with piercings is the quality and healing rather than the physical aesthetic of the initial piece of jewelry. They offer an assortment of titanium and surgical steel options and then extend one complimentary change-out service several weeks later, if desired.
The healing process of one’s pierced area is of utmost importance to Golden Phoenix, which is why they provide a thorough “aftercare” explanation.
“Understanding the aftercare is just as important as our initial consulstiaton before the piercing,” says West. “We want optimal healing of the piercing.”
When ask what the minimum age that a client must be to have their ears pierced, West says that they value informed consent from minors and do request that they’re of age to agree to their piercing.
“We want them to cognitively remember the situation, what took place, and know that they personally committed.”
For this reason, the minimum age to have one’s ears pierced is four years old.

On Saturday, October 29th, Golden Phoenix will offer a one-day sale where guests are invited to select from a sheet of tattoos and pick which ones they’d like for $35 per tattoo.
Doors will open at noon, though West suggests arriving as early as possible and waiting in line.
“It’s first come, first served, and we’ll take as many names as we can until 9 o’clock that evening.”
They’ll also have special pricing on piercings on Ocotber 29th as well!

•No need to call ahead. Just come by the shop and they’ll take your info and put you on the list to call you back to come in. This helps avoid overcrowding.
