Most will never fully understand what it’s like to launch a massive business (both in structure size and in enrollment) only to come to a screeching halt less than 90 days after opening the doors.
Kristina Cristiano knows exactly what this is like though.
As a personal trainer at Phaze 3 Fitness and spouse of assistant general manager Shane Cristiano, she has walked through every emotion possible the last few months, from the mountaintop of the excitement of opening a gym of this magnitude in Madison to the confusion and uncertainty of temporarily shutting their doors.
Phaze 3 Fitness, one of the newest and largest premium fitness facilities in North Alabama, reopened their doors on May 12th and hopes that all of their current and prospective members understand the changes that have been made to keep safety and health at the top of the priority list.
“We always want to do what is best by the people who come to our gym, so we have taken many extra precautions to ensure the cleanliness of our facility,” says Cristiano.
“As soon as we shut down weeks ago, our managers continued to work. They were here eight hours a day cleaning every square inch of the facility, moving around equipment, and creating as much space as they could between stations.”

Cristiano continued to explain that pieces that were able to be moved are spaced at least six feet apart. For bulkier pieces of equipment that are unable to be moved such as treadmills, she explains that every other one is turned off to allow for space between those using them.
An AirPHX was installed to purify the air and eradicate pathogens at a cellular level within the building.
A Tri-Jet Fogger is used to disinfect the facility on a weekly basis. This sprayer is a botanical solution that kills 99.9% of bacteria, COVD-19, fungi, molds, and other viruses.
Cleaning rotations have increased tremendously, and a professional cleaning crew comes in every evening to deep clean.
She says that there are more sanitizing spray stations than ever and that all employees will be wearing masks and having their temperature taken at the beginning of their shift for the foreseeable future.
Cristiano says that seeing and hearing everyone’s excitement surrounding the opening of the gym several months ago was thrilling, and she’s hopeful that people are still excited about it and will come back.
“We are very proud to offer a classy gym at an affordable price. We believe that good health should be affordable for everyone. We love this residential area and the idea of having whole families come to join us at the gym,” says Cristiano. “We want to cater to our whole community.”
The state-of-the-art childcare facility as well as group fitness classes will all resume on May 25th.
Showers, sauna, and water fountains are still unable to be used (with the exception of the bottle-filling stations).
Since Cristiano is one of the personal trainers at Phaze 3 Fitness, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to dive a little deeper into what she offers clients. Her true passion and heart for training others were evident and inspiring. The idea of helping others improve the quality of their everyday lives is something that really fuels her.
“We want our clients to know that during the time block we are training with them that that time is all about them. Every second is geared toward helping each of our clients reach his or her personal goals.”
She continues to explain that personal training is tailored to each individual’s injury history, health issues, and/or general fitness goals.
“Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in a big gym. Our trainers are here though to help clients feel more comfortable and educated about not only how to use various areas of the gym, but how to do everything safely.”
She explains that teaching how to do movements with correct form is of the utmost importance.
Cristiano says that Phaze 3 Fitness employs 10-12 certified, knowledgeable personal trainers who are eager and ready to help clients feel better in their own skin and have more overall confidence. They cater to men and women of all ages, from teenagers to senior citizens.
“Our trainers come from all walks of life, backgrounds, and specialties. When someone signs up for personal training, we make sure that he or she is matched with a trainer that makes them feel extremely comfortable and that will cater to his or her unique, individual goals.”
Cristiano says that the southern hospitality here is unmatched and that our Madison community has welcomed them and been so kind to them.
“We just can’t wait to see everyone’s faces in the gym again.”
