Last week, I was invited to HOTWORX at Clift Farm to give a few of their workouts a whirl, and I couldn’t get up there fast enough!
My First HOTWORX Workout
I’ve shared a bit on this website and social media about what this new fitness concept entails, so I had a pretty good idea going into it what I was getting myself into. What I didn’t expect though was that I would leave feeling like I just did a 60+ minute workout in less than 30 minutes. I was in and out in no time and left feeling like I’d just accomplished an incredibly efficient, full-body workout.
I went out to my car, filmed a few quick Instagram stories to share briefly about my experience, and was then bombarded with messages from others sharing their adoration for the facility as well. In a nutshell, HOTWORX is the real deal.
But let’s back up a bit and start from the beginning.
Because I was already familiar with the various types of workouts available at HOTWORX, I arrived knowing that I would be knocking out two 15-minute cardio workouts that day because I was short on time. (The isometric workouts are 30-45 minutes, and I’d love to try those next time because I hear great things!)
I chose to do a cycling class first and then a Hot Blast class next. My sauna was set on 125 degrees, which felt great. The front-desk employee was so kind and helpful, walking me through everything to get set up. She offered to adjust the sauna’s temperature, helped set up my bike for my height, explained how to switch from one class to the next, etc. It was nice to see that she was invested in making sure I felt comfortable as a first-timer since I was definitely a smidge intimidated trying something new.
The cycling class was awesome. The instructions on the screen were very clear with a slew of options to match my personal ability level. A countdown clock didn’t appear until there were only five minutes remaining, which I appreciated since I’m often one that’s habitually looking at a clock to see how much time is left. The intensity of the workout coupled with the heat from the sauna had me drenched in sweat in no time.
Once the first workout was complete, I exited the room, grabbed disinfectant wipes, cleaned my bike and area, and then hopped right to the next room (psst: You schedule these workouts ahead of time, so you’ll go to HOTWORX knowing exactly what your course of action is!)
The Hot Blast class was intense in the best way! I’m not even sure what the cardio machine was called, but whatever it was made me feel the burn! I absolutely loved how this specific class was a true full-body workout. Just like the cycling class, the instructors on the screen were clear, helpful, and motivating.
The workout was over in a flash, and I was out the door as soon as I cleaned my equipment.
Here are a few tips to consider before going to your first HOTWORX workout.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drink water ahead of time, and bring an additional bottle of water with you to drink throughout your workout.
- Arrive early and leave ample time to get set up without feeling rushed.
- Do your research about various class offerings and benefits and then cater that first workout to your interests. There are so many different workouts, and each of them works different muscle groups and had differing benefits.
- Fully invest in being a member by purchasing the items that will aid your workouts, such as yoga mats, bands, etc. Though the upfront commitment may not be something you’re jumping up and down about, you’ll likely feel much more prepared to dive in and really take advantage of everything HOTWORX has to offer. (Also, from personal experience at gyms, I know that when I’m financially committed and invested, my interest in actually using my membership and equipment becomes much stronger.)
P.S. Did you know that the facility is open 24/7 with a member’s access code? The facility is also staffed Monday through Saturday.
