When patients have their braces taken off and finish up at Madison Orthodontics in Madison, Alabama, they often leave with more than just a beautiful new smile. They leave with a handful of new friends too.
This is a common theme I heard from several people this week during my time with Dr. Lana Bowdoin and her staff at her brand new office on HWY 72 W.
All About Madison Orthodontics in Madison, Alabama
The relationship aspect of orthodontics is what initially gravitated Dr. Bowdoin towards this field throughout dental school. Bowdoin says that growing up she loved her childhood orthodontist but that she kept an open mind during dental school about which avenue of this industry she would take.
Ultimately, the opportunity to see patients on a monthly schedule and get to know them was a huge draw for Bowdoin.
“I love building relationships and talking with my patients when they come in,” she shared. “I often lose track of time because we’re enjoying our conversation so much.”
Grace Ogle, one of Bowdoin’s orthodontic assistants, laughed and shared that Bowdoin has given her full permission to come in and remind her that she needs to move on to other patients.
Ogle has a similar story about why she chose this avenue for her career.
“I loved my assistant when I had braces. I loved that I got to go in every month and talk with them.”
Because of this, Ogle strives to treat all of her patients that way and make their orthodontic experience one that is pleasant and comfortable. She says that there is nothing “assembly line” about Madison Orthodontics; They truly try to take their time with each patient.
Another aspect of her career that Bowdoin thoroughly enjoys is the aesthetic arena. She shared that she’s always enjoyed being creative and that getting to see the final product in the form of a beautiful new smile is something she never tires of.
Ogle bragged on her boss and praised her for how meticulous she is with the final product. She said that Dr. Bowdoin loves to make every patient look and feel good.
Office History and Vibe
After 10 years at her former office on Hughes Road, Dr. Bowdoin recently completed her new, much roomier office on Highway 72.
Ogle shared that the office’s lobby area feels more like a living room because it is modern and comfortable with stylish decor, accent walls, and candle warmers.
“For me, I wanted this office to be comfortable, inviting, family-oriented, bright, elegant, but also fun because we have patients of all ages,” shared Bowdoin.
Services
Dr. Bowdown offers metal braces, clear braces, Invisalign, and more.
Ogle shared that half of their office’s patients are adults and that they will start seeing children often as young as eight years old for consultations about what to expect in the near future.
Ogle shared that some people assume that orthodontist treatments are an overall painful experience but said that could not be further from the truth.
Some patients also assume that the procedures will be incredibly costly, but Madison Orthodonstis makes sure to break down payments monthly over time and allows flexible payment options where necessary.
When a patient calls to inquire about services, Ogle says that “we’ll set them up with a free new patient exam. From there, Dr. Bowdoin will share with them the best route to achieve what they’re hoping for.”
Regarding insurance policies, Ogle says that their office isn’t in-network with anyone in particular but that they will pull every potential patient’s benefits package and hope that some portions are covered.
Customizing Treatment Plans
Dr. Bowdoin shared that she works with patients who have a variety of needs and has extensive experience working with children with autism. She works diligently to create customized treatment plans based on sensory issues and each patient’s needs to ensure that they are comfortable and moving at a pace that is appropriate for them.
“We try to explain every step of this process. All of our girls (assistants) are very nurturing and do a great job of easing patients’ anxieties. We will walk you through every single step.”
One particular advancement that Dr. Bowdoin’s practice has invested in is the intraoral digital scanner. This technology allows patients to skip having impressions taken. She shared that children are especially glad to skip this step.
