“I love my job because I help people.”
This has been a consistent theme in each of my conversations with Madison resident and Yellowhammer Roofing’s Daniel Canada.
For years, he pushed off an opportunity that just didn’t seem right for him.
Focused on obtaining his mechanical engineering degree from The University of Alabama, Daniel Canada knew that he had enough on his plate with engineering schoolwork, working day in and day out at his full-time job, and being a father to his pride and joy, his four children.
But his friend from church insisted that Daniel look into a career change, and when a layoff came in 2020 due to the pandemic, he knew that it was time to hear his friend out.
That career change revolved around Yellowhammer Roofing.
Working as a contractor for Yellowhammer Roofing is the dream career that Daniel has discovered all roads have led to, and serving the North Alabama community has been his most fulfilling career move thus far.
Though Daniel did proudly obtain his engineering degree, he says that he has never been more grateful to be in the line of work he now is.
During one of my first conversations with Daniel, I was positively struck by his humble confidence in his work as he educated me about what he does.
On the surface, it’s very simple: Call Daniel, and he’ll come out and give your roof a free inspection. If your roof looks good, he’ll let you know the good news!
If he believes your roof has experienced wear and tear or damage of some kind and a replacement could be covered by insurance, he’ll let you know that as well. He will then guide you through filing your claim, working with adjustors, and being your advocate in a smooth “new roof” experience.
Daniel says that many people don’t even think about potential roof damage after heavy storms and that interior signs of roof damage often mean that damage to the home as a whole could be catastrophic.
“Fun” fact: Daniel says that storm damage (such as hail and repeated heavy storm – like we had so much of last summer) – makes up 95% of his home owners that qualify for new roofs.
He says that having a complimentary roof check performed after heavy storms (or every few years as your home ages) should be one of your easiest decisions as a home owner, and that one call to Daniel is all it takes.
One thing I really admire about Daniel: He shared early in one of our first conversations that he could never imagine himself as a salesman and that “selling” anyone anything is the last thing he’d want to do for a career.
“I’m a straight shooter,” he jokes. “If your roof is in fantastic condition, I will gladly tell you!”
He looks at his job differently though and more as an opportunity to share an honest report of the condition of one’s roof. If a new roof is needed, he will then help them get the repairs they need (typically through insurance) so that their house is a safe, healthy place to call home.
“Deterioration of a roof is normal over time,” shares Daniel. “Some of it you can see, but some damage, such as hail damage, you typically can’t see.”
Daniel says that professionals like him know exactly what to look for though and can identify problems of all kinds that will continue to grow into bigger problems, such as water leaks, mold and mildew, rafter rot, attic trouble, drywall and sheetrock stains, and overall big, big problems from sudden big rainfalls.
Daniel often hears others say that if “we don’t have leaks, our roof is good.”
This is simply not the case though and says that there is no risk in requesting that Daniel come over to give it a complimentary inspection just for peace of mind, especially after a summer where repeated gusty storms were heavier and more frequent than they had been in years.
In a nutshell, working with Daniel is easy.
1.) Call, text, or email Daniel to request a free inspection. You can also call the Yellowhammer Roofing office directly and ask for Daniel Canada. (His information is listed below.)
2.) If he believes that insurance will cover a new roof, he will walk you through the next steps of filing your claim and working with adjusters.
When you meet Daniel, you’ll know immediately that he loves his job. He loves helping others, and he loves the flexibility he has to be a present dad to his four kids.
He also loves Yellowhammer Roofing as a company and is proud of the family-owned company that it is. He says that the overall atmosphere of Yellowhammer is very warm and family-focused, and he says that he can’t sing their praises enough.
If you have been putting off for too long having an inspector come out to glance at your roof, get in touch with Daniel ASAP. You’ll be impressed by him immediately, and he may just save you a lot of money by catching roofing issues at your home before they become more significant.
