My parents moved my grandmother three times in five years before she passed in 2024. Once to an apartment, then to another nearby apartment with a shorter commute to the front door, and then her final transition to a senior living facility.
It was so hard on them. I wish they had had Life Simplified.
I want to tell you a story like I’d tell a friend, because if you ever find yourself helping a senior loved one transition, it’s important to be familiar with this service.
In short, Life Simplified has been helping create seamless systems and transitions here locally for nearly two decades. Their senior transition service is a lot like hiring help for anything you technically could do yourself, but simply can’t because the weight of it all is too much.
They move through things with care and clarity.
I recently called a woman named Annie to hear her story. Her mom has been through a lot. She lost her husband not long ago, and she suffered a stroke too.
Annie began to notice that her mom needed more help.
In November, Annie’s mom needed a shoulder surgery and then spent several weeks in rehab. During this time, a nearby apartment opened up that seemed perfect for her mom. She knew this was the right time to transition from her mom from her current home to a more manageable apartment.
The only problem?
She had just five days to move everything before having to hand over the keys to her former home.
Everyone at the new complex encouraged Annie to call Life Simplified, so she did.
She says she had to.There was no way she would be able to move her mother’s entire life from one house to an apartment – an emotional, physically taxing experience – on her own.

With their help, Annie and Life Simplified successfully welcomed her into her new apartment in January 2025. Life Simplified did all of the packing, unpacking, organizing, and so much more.

In the back of her mind, though, Annie wondered if this was a good idea at all.
Maybe we should have skipped the apartment and moved her to the assisted living.
But she wanted to give her the chance at independence one more time.
Within months, though, it became clear that assisted living was the right move.

So, Annie called Karen, owner of Life Simplified, again.
This time, a small team of 3-4 women came in and handled everything with Annie’s mom a part of it too. Sorting, packing, organizing, labeling, donating, and hauling away what needed to go.
She says she couldn’t have done it without them. Worth every penny, she says.
Color-coded tape systems. What is being donated? Stored? Moved? They had it all organized to perfection.

They even coordinated trash pickup, donation pickup, and laid out a whole floor plan of where each item would go in her mom’s new assisted living space.
What struck Annie the most, though, wasn’t just the efficiency, but the care.
My goodness, the Life Simplified team cared. Annie became weepy.
Getting rid of belongings is hard, especially because these weren’t just her own things, but they were her mom’s. Annie said the team was endlessly patient and never made her feel rushed or judged.
When Annie started to apologize for how long her mom was taking to go through every item, Karen told her gently, “If she wants to look through the book, let her look through the book. This is difficult for her.”
So patient.
They honored our memories. That’s what she said they did.
From packing to unpacking, coordinating movers, and hanging artwork just the way her mom wanted, they did it all.
They often stayed longer than Annie did because they were so committed to getting it right.
She says they lifted a burden during one of the hardest seasons she’s ever walked through.
I am thankful for Annie’s story and her time to talk with me. I look forward to sharing these senior transition services with my own loved ones when they need them.
And I hope you’ll remember these services too.
