One of Madison’s newest restaurants is bringing something totally different to the table (literally!), and I finally made it in to try it!
Chikinjip is now open on County Line Road, in the former Cork and Crust spot, and it’s right beside Beignets and Brew. It’s locally owned and Korean-owned, and it has only one location right here in Madison, Alabama.
Owner Haden Kim also owns Madison’s Capt Loui franchise and is excited to not only bring another dining concept to our city but also open something truly one of a kind.
Chikinjip literally means “chicken house” in Korean, and while you may have heard that this restaurant serves Korean fried chicken, they also offer so much more.
I tried it all, so here’s a helpful run-down.
Some base knowledge (because I was curious too): Korean fried chicken is very different from American fried chicken. It’s extremely crispy, light, flavorful, and not greasy at all (three cheers!).
Every piece of chicken at Chikinjip is cut in-house, marinated for 24 hours, and coated with sauces and seasonings that are unique to Chikinjip.
Psst: while the sauce recipes are original to Chikinjip, they are actually made in Korea, which makes this even cooler.
Guests will find bone-in and boneless wings, tenders, bowls, and one of the menu’s most fun Items: the signature seasoning powder.
This powder coats many of the chicken and French fry options, and it is delicious. I tried both mild and spicy, and if you like a little sweetness, the mild powder on the fries is straight-up addictive.
If you love heat, the spicy powder is absolutely to die for.

And if you want something truly classic, order the tteokbokki, which is a chewy rice cake dish served in a sweet-spicy sauce with fish cakes. It’s a staple Korean comfort food for a reason.
Pro tip: order a combo. Combos are extremely popular in Korea and are perfect for sharing, especially if you’re torn between spicy and mild.
If you want a carb-heavy comfort dish, the Beef Bulgogi Fries are a solid 10/10. A basket of fries is piled high with savory bulgogi and sauces, and it’s absolutely worth trying. This may be my favorite menu item.
Chikinjip also serves beer, leaning into Korea’s chimaek culture (chicken and beer), with more drink options coming soon.
I dined in, but I also took home a ton of leftovers to feed my family, and everyone from my husband down to my six-year-old daughter loved it.
We reheated everything in the air fryer, and it was just as crispy and delicious as the first time.
