This article is written as part of the “Away From Here” series where All Things Madison branches outside of our city and explores destinations for residents to explore when they want to get “away from here”. Today we’re heading a few miles west to Athens, Alabama and making a stop at Green Wave Therapeutics!
Green Wave Therapeutics in Athens, Alabama
When Jason Christopher opened Green Wave Therapeutics in Athens, Alabama in early February 2020, he was ecstatic about the technology he was finally able to offer the North Alabama area. He believed so much in the Magna Wave therapy he’d watched work for years on the “supersport” horses he worked with, and he knew that this type of therapy was just the alternative so many people didn’t even know they needed.
But before Christopher was ever able to widely spread the word about what Green Wave Therapeutics offers, the pandemic swooped in, sending people to their homes. Two years later, Green Wave’s doors are still open and Christopher has never given up on what he’s brought to Athens and the surrounding areas.
Green Wave Therapeutics in Athens is a tiny but mighty brick-and-mortar location with two therapy rooms: one for pain relief using Magna Wave technology and another for Kaasen Cryotherapy.
Christopher says that he has a background in working with supersport horses worth hundreds of thousands (or millions) of dollars and that these horses were often kept in tip-top shape using Magna Wave technology. Christopher was fascinated by how comfortable this therapy kept the horses and wondered if similar technology could be used on humans.
Sure enough, he found and invested in technology for humans that function very similar to what the horses received, and Christopher says that just one visit to Green Wave will make anyone a believer in this alternative for pain management.
Magna Wave therapy treats pain and inflammation in the knees, back, shoulders, or ankles, and can also “knock out a migraine in a hot second”, shared Christopher.
He says that to treat a migraine, he uses reflexology through the foot and that it’s been 100% successful with every single client he’s seen.
“You’ll walk in with a migraine and out without one,” Christopher promises.
The Magna Wave technology uses pulsing electromagnetic fields that work on a cellular level.
“When you are injured or diseased, your cells lose their electrical charge. When that happens, they stop communicating with the cells around them,” says Christopher.
The Magna Wave technology is painless and feels like a subtle vibration on the affected area. Christopher says that the number of sessions a patient needs varies depending on the severity of pain.
“If you come in with a bad back, I’ll likely want to see you two to three times per week for the first couple of weeks and then we’ll pare down.”
Christopher is certified to treat humans, equines, and small animals with this technology. He takes continuing education courses each year to stay up to date on the latest updates with this form of therapy.
Cryotherapy in Madison, Alabama
The second room within Green Wave is the Kaasen Cryotherapy room.
Cryotherapy is also known as cold therapy, and the Kaasen is a popular, high-end tool that uses super-chilled carbon dioxide to freeze and flatten body fat.
The unique tool has various attachments to treat all parts of the body, including the stomach, arms, thighs, under eyes, and more.
Christopher says that this is extremely popular with women in the early 20s all the way to women in their 80s.
“This machine just blows the fat off!” Jokes Christopher. “A lot of guys get curious about what it is because they see the awesome results their wives got, so they’ll come in and have a session too.”
Christopher says that many patients visit Green Wave desiring for their cellulite to be smoothed out, and he says that this technology does exactly that.
Green Wave also offers frozen facials and “frotox” which are great for puffiness, wrinkles, and more. He says that the blast of cold air combined with the wand does a miraculous job at exciting the cells and smoothing everything out.
Individual sessions are available all the way up to packages of 10 visits. Christopher says that most clients purchase between five and 10 sessions.
“I have a lady that comes in here to do her stomach, the back of her legs, and in between her thighs all the time. We can take off two inches from various spots in just one session.”
Christopher says his employees Stephanie and Elizabeth are the pros at all things related to the Kaasen and do a fabulous job.
When asked what keeps Christopher motivated to keep his doors open, he says that he “loves when someone comes in here with an issue and then I send them out of here with no medicine or needles in their body, and they feel so much better.”
