Lemon & Lavender opened its brand new location last October, and it’s become a staple for visitors to the area. The eye-catching black-and-white awning and the always-open front doors draw in those curious about what this “only in Madison” locally-owned store is all about!
Once inside, shoppers will discover self-care products, gifts for babies and toddlers, luxury kitchen items, items for your pets, and, of course, the mega-popular Refillery (see our fun video all about it here!) Lemon and Lavender prides itself on offering a diverse range of eco-friendly products, with each product undergoing rigorous scrutiny to ensure it aligns with the store’s eco-friendly values. For instance, a hairbrush must be made from natural fibers, and the sourcing location is considered to reduce emissions.
Lemon and Lavender first opened its doors on its original location in early 2021. It was founded by friends Shannon Fisher and Brandy Booth who were/are both on a mission to leave the earth in a better state for their children.
“We feel we have a responsibility to leave the earth habitable,” they explain. This sense of responsibility drives their commitment to continuous learning and educating the community about sustainable living. Not only are they passionate about sharing all-natural, eco-friendly products with their guests, but they also frequently host popular workshops!
By hosting workshops and engaging with customers, they have fallen in love with fostering a community that is aware and conscious of its environmental impact.
After an enjoyable first year of operating Lemon and Lavender, Fisher and Booth saw an opportunity to move into a bigger storefront space on Main Street in downtown. After patiently waiting for nearly two years for construction to be complete, they were finally able to move in their beautiful, roomy new space just in time to welcome shoppers who were in the area for the 2023 Madison Street Festival.
Since this location opened, the store has hosted more in-person workshops than they can count thanks to all of the space that guests have to gather, spread out, socialize, and learn something new.
The location is also now home to one of just two “refilleries” of this caliber in Alabama! Simply bring your containers (or scoop up some of their complimentary jars!) and stock up on items for the kitchen and bath, such as shampoos, body washes, detergents of all kinds, hand soaps, and so much more. I’ve purchased more gifts in this store than I can count. I bought my daughters their first-ever Make-up Erasers here (one of my “can’t live without” items I’ve had for years). I’ve purchased gifts to bring to “Favorite Things” parties. I’ve grabbed luxury soaps to give as gifts, and their “crackling” candles are my favorite! I could go on and on about how I’ve never left Lemon and Lavender empty-handed.
I told their owners recently that I always find something at Lemon and Lavender because they carry so much inventory, they always have something new, and they carry products that people ACTUALLY WANT and that are good for them!
If you need a baby shower or toddler gift, you’ll love the selection of options that are all sustainably made with safe ingredients. They have such unique items. The new mama-to-be in your life will love what you gift her!
The owners are passionate about reducing waste and repurposing as much as possible. They even consider the packaging in which potential inventory is shipped to ensure that even IT can be repurposed responsibly. Any shipping supplies that aren’t used are redirected to ensure they don’t end up in the trash, embodying the principle that repurposing is as crucial as recycling.
Did you know that every product on the shelves is carefully curated to ensure it meets high standards of sustainability and health?
“Everything in here ingredient-wise is going to be good for your body. It’s sustainable or made for sustainability,” the owners emphasize.
The store also hosts a variety of workshops each month, covering topics like sourdough baking and chunky blanket knitting. These workshops are designed to be both fun and educational, always within the bounds of eco-friendly practices. Private workshops and birthday parties are also available, making Lemon and Lavender a hub for community engagement and learning.
Lemon and Lavender isn’t just a store but rather an opportunity to consider other options to products you already know and love that may be better for you, your family, and the environment as a whole. Being mindful and a continuous learner is what Fisher and Booth say Lemon and Lavender is all about! If you’re in North Alabama and want to shop green or learn more about sustainable living, Lemon and Lavender is the spot to check out!
Please put this retail shop on your list of stores to visit in person ASAP! I think you’ll love it!
