Just four plucks of hair from your head is all it takes to be well on your way to discovering your health profile in an entirely new way!
Returning Madison resident Jennifer Alexander is an expert in hair scan technology and has recently opened Thrive Family Wellness of North Alabama right here in downtown Madison. Her office is located at 16 Main (the yellow house across the street from Main Street Cafe). The entrance to her office is on the east/left side of the house with its own entrance.
With an extensive medical background and an overall passion for holistic health and wellness, Alexander is thrilled to finally swing open the doors of her new shop and help others unlock the knowledge they’ve been searching for regarding how their bodies are functioning from the inside out.
Thrive Family Wellness of North Alabama provides cellular hair assessments to those who are interested in gaining a broader scope of their health. Alexander, who first opened TFW in Chicago last fall before relocating to the Madison area this summer, says that the entire process is incredibly easy for the patient.
Simply make an appointment online (the 90-minute Premium In-person package is 100% recommended for those who have never had a hair analysis completed before), and then arrive at your designated appointment time. Though spouses and children are welcome to join the appointment, Alexander cautions that the appointment will likely take the full 90-minutes, and only one patient can be seen per 90 minutes. This means that if you and your spouse would both like hair analysis, you will need to book two appointment times, though they can certainly be back to back!
Once you arrive at your appointment, Alexander will quickly pluck 4-7 hair follicles which will then be immediately analyzed via wave technology.
The technology will then release a 37-page report of one’s health; The report is ready to go over within 15 minutes of plucking the hair. While you wait for the report to come back, Alexander will discuss your reasons for receiving a hair scan and discuss any concerns you may currently have about your health.
Once the report is ready, the magic begins! Alexander will then spend up to an hour reviewing your entire scan with you. Because medical terms can often be hard to understand for non-medical professionals, Alexander will break down each category of the scan and explain the findings in layman’s terms so that you walk away having a well-rounded idea of what information the scan provided.
The report is emailed to you and is yours to keep, refer to, and analyze a bit more when desired.
While Alexander is breaking down the report with each patient, she will frequently refer back to the conversation that was had while the report was being generated.
“We’ll talk through the scan and make sure to tailor the recommendations to the priorities and goals you shared.”
Author note: I received my own hair scan and was beyond curious about what the report would show. Alexander did an incredible job taking the information and breaking it down for me to understand what I’m deficient in, have too much of (hello heavy metals), and what I’m right on track with health-wise. While I won’t dive into the specifics of my own health scan, I will say that I was beyond surprised by and impressed with the report.
My husband receive a scan as well, and while he was more skeptical of the scan ahead of time than I was, he was fascinated by what it showed and immediately made changes with supplements and other daily routines. His biggest takeaway was seeing what vitamins he was greatly depleted of. Mind-blowing technology!
Alexander stresses that while this is a fantastic health tool, it is not diagnostic.
When asked why someone would choose to receive a hair scan versus routine bloodwork, she says that it’s like comparing apples and oranges.
“Bloodwork gives you a picture of exactly what is happening at that exact minute,” she explains. “The hair scan takes a look at the cells that have been holding information for 2-3 months and aren’t dependent on what’s happening in your body on any given day.”
When asked if Alexander could give a few examples of what the report breaks down, she shares that it analyzes your “vitamin and mineral status, foods that may be causing a disturbance, environmental changes, a variety of toxins, radiation and mold exposure, fatty acids, which nutrients your body is depleted of, your emotional state” and so much more.
She briefly shared a story of a patient who came to her looking for potential solutions to her debilitating headaches.
“She had never considered food additives being a cause of her headaches, but the scan revealed she has numerous,” explains Alexander. “Once those were revealed, she was able to pull those out of her diet and greatly reduce her headaches.”
Alexander says that she strongly recommends this health tool for three groups of people.
First, she recommends this cellular hair assessment for those who desire to be preventative with their health.
“If you know diabetes is something that runs in your family and you want to get ahead of it and know what’s going on in your body, let’s do a hair scan.”
She further explains that a hair scan is often used to become aware of certain potential issues and then get ahead of them preventatively.
Next, she recommends a scan for those who would classify themselves as in good health but want to make sure they’re moving in the right direction. She says this is often fantastic for athletes or those who have been on a weight loss journey but want a closer look at their health all around.
Finally, she recommends this opportunity for those who are looking for healing.
“If you are trying to manage certain issues, such as thyroid issues, and simply want help with knowing what is going on, I can help do that for you.”
After the initial scan and meeting, Alexander suggests coming back once per quarter to have a re-scan and evaluate your reports side by side to determine improvements and better health from the previous scan.
Alexander, a Madison native who grew up in the area and graduated from Bob Jones High School, says that she is thrilled to reach as many people across the area as she can and give them the knowledge to live a healthier life and feel better from the inside out. She attended nursing school at The University of Alabama and is a Registered Nurse.
“We are given one body, and it’s important to understand it and be our own best advocate.”
Psst: Hair scans are also available for children too! Inquire with Alexander about how a child’s scan may be different from an adult’s.
