As if getting to tour one of the most beautiful brand-new homes I’ve ever seen wasn’t fun enough, I also got to witness the incredible collaboration effort between one of the area’s most loved custom home builders and one of the most sought-after cabinet companies.
Learning from them and discovering how they brought such stunning work to life was nothing short of inspiring!

The home I toured was built by Bart Darwin, who strives to create lifelong customers who hopefully choose to build with him again and again, but all of that starts with surrounding his team with partners that do good, solid, trustworthy work.
I completely understand why Madison’s very own SCS Cabinets is one of those partners.
Having built a custom home ourselves years ago, we know cabinetry is one of the largest investments you make. It should last for decades, and not only be beautiful but also INCREDIBLY functional for heavy use.
SCS Cabinets is wild because their work ALWAYS has me wondering how they even thought of incorporating such genius functionality into their cabinetry!
This home features rollout trays galore, so nothing gets lost in the back. Produce drawers with a stunning wire face. Appliance garages, hamper pull-outs, even a drawer designed just for WRAPPING PAPER!
I found reeded cabinet details, furniture-style legs, the most beautiful decorative cut-outs in the mudroom, and somehow every drawer from the kitchen to the bathrooms was built for tip-top organization!
It really inspired me to listen to Bart himself talk about working with SCS. He told me that communication is EVERYTHING on a custom build, which makes complete sense because dozens of subcontractors are involved. Staying on schedule requires everyone to do their part well, and he said that SCS consistently communicates exceptionally well and remains flexible when schedules inevitably shift.
We all laughed when we looked over and saw Toure Brown, the owner of SCS Cabinets, walking around the house with a bottle of glass cleaner just days before closing, personally inspecting every glass cabinet that his team had installed. From the very top of the company, they are on their “A game”!
If I were a builder, worked for a builder, or were interested in picking out my own cabinetmaker, I would not make any selections without a conversation with Brown and his team at SCS Cabinets.
They do what they do really, really well.
(If you love interiors, you might just die when you see their website. Insane work!)
SCS Cabinets has built a strong reputation throughout North Alabama for designing and building custom cabinetry for luxury homes, kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, laundry rooms, and custom built-ins while partnering with many respected custom home builders.
Look beyond appearance. A great cabinet company should offer exceptional craftsmanship, functional storage solutions, quality materials, strong communication, installation expertise, and a portfolio that demonstrates long-lasting work.
For many homeowners, yes. Custom cabinets maximize storage, improve functionality, increase home value, and are built specifically for your space instead of using standard-sized boxes.
Custom cabinetry is designed specifically for your home. It allows homeowners to customize dimensions, storage features, finishes, wood species, organizational accessories, and decorative details that aren’t available in stock cabinetry.
