Nestled in the heart of south Huntsville off the Parkway, Off the Rack Boutique offers a shopping and consignment experience like none other in the Huntsville/Madison area. This dress boutique caters to women of all sizes, styles, and occasions, making it an option that should be top of mind when considering where to shop for your next outing!
Whether you’re preparing for a wedding, college spring formal, gala, or even a fabulous vacation, Off the Rack has an impressive array of gowns, jumpsuits, rompers, professional dresses, and so much more. Shoppers will even find a wide selection of accessories, shoes, fur and faux fur coats, and all kinds of seasonal garments.
Off the Rack carries hundreds (sometimes thousands!) of pieces, including many brand-new pieces with tags, so it’s no surprise that shoppers travel from all over to browse the racks. This boutique carries sizes 00-32, ensuring as many women as possible can find something that makes them feel confident and beautiful.
Owner Shannon Healy wouldn’t have it any other way.
“We want everyone to feel very confident and sexy in what they leave with,” shares Shannon. The store’s mission is evident in the personalized, one-on-one service they provide. Customers are encouraged to bring as many dresses as they’d like into the dressing room, with staff readily available to help zip and style each one, if desired.
Off the Rack’s story began with founder and entrepreneur Rachel Rutledge, who started the boutique in her home’s sunroom. The business moved to a location off Pratt Avenue six months later before finding its current home off Byrd Spring Road, right in front of Rosie’s Cantina. Shannon Healy, who started as the general manager, took over ownership almost three years ago.
Like Rachel, Shannon has infused her love of fashion and customer service into the boutique. She shares that Off the Rack often attracts shoppers looking for unique designer pieces they won’t find at nearby department stores. Because Huntsville draws professionals and families from all over the world, consigners bring in certain designers and styles that can’t be found on local racks anywhere else. This is just one element of Off the Rack that makes it a special shopping experience.
For those interested in consigning their gently used items, Off the Rack offers a streamlined process by appointment only. The boutique accepts seasonal items (no more than three years old, with some exceptions), ensuring fresh and on-trend inventory. Clothing must be clean, free of smoke and pet hair, and on hangers.
Consignors enjoy a percentage of the sales price, which can be taken as cash or store credit. Shannon emphasizes that Off the Rack is not a thrift store. While there are affordable finds, the boutique maintains an elevated atmosphere, with designer pieces and high-quality items at a range of price points.
Off the Rack offers private shopping experiences perfect for special occasions or a girls’ day out. For $45 per hour and a half, guests can enjoy a mimosa or coffee bar, charcuterie, and the boutique to themselves. The boutique also hosts quick sales on its VIP Facebook page, where savvy shoppers can snag items for up to 70% off.
With the height of event season just around the corner, Off the Rack receives 100-200 new items per week, making it a hotspot for dresses and accessories for proms, debutantes, and weddings.
