I have a vet practice recommendation that I’m beyond confident you will be thrilled about.
I wouldn’t steer you wrong here; This team has it all. Warmth. Professionalism. Technology. Experience. Services galore. They are doing it all right, and if you love your four-legged family members as much as we do, you want to make sure you are set up with the best vet you can find.
Before we ever knew about or adopted our precious new kitten, Nacho, from a local rescue, we already knew we’d be establishing our future pets as patients at Towne Park Animal Care Center in Huntsville, Alabama near The Village of Providence.
A very close friend of mine has been singing the praises of Dr. John Mark Russell, owner and lead veterinarian at Towne Park, and I trusted her 100% that we would receive extraordinarily personal care here for years to come.
After our first visit, I immediately understood why she spoke so highly of the team.
I scheduled a baseline appointment to get Nacho set up by calling their office. Shortly after, I was emailed a portal to upload his records, which made our first appointment much smoother. Easy!
When we arrived, we were instantly greeted and warmly asked, “Is this Nacho?” I was taken aback by how quick it was!
Within moments, we were in an exam room where a staff member doted on him as if he were the only pet she’d seen all day!
What stood out right away was how transparent and pressure-free the process was. The assistant walked me through different vaccine and preventative options, even laying out the costs in advance, but continually reminded me that the decisions were entirely mine. I never felt pressured and was grateful for all the information to help guide my choices.
Dr. Mauldin then came in like the ray of sunshine she is! She was so wonderful with Nacho, explaining what she observed (we were dealing with eye discharge and a possible respiratory issue) while listening to my questions. I couldn’t have been more pleased. My first thought upon meeting her was what a gift she is to the veterinary world and to pet owners in general. She’s warm, patient, and has an infectious, cheerful energy. You’ll know exactly what I mean when you meet her!
Another feature I appreciated was the TV in each exam room, which allows veterinarians to show X-rays on the spot. Dr. Russell explained that this is designed to educate owners so they can make decisions in alignment with their vet, rather than feeling in the dark.
From day one, I’ve heard about the incredible culture at Towne Park, and from the patient side, it’s truly impressive. Dr. Russell shares that emergencies don’t rattle their team. They handle them regularly and encourage owners to call ahead so they can be ready upon arrival. From the joy of a first puppy or kitten checkup to the heartbreak of saying goodbye to a beloved pet, the staff is equipped to meet every situation with compassion.
Towne Park opened on January 13, 2023, and has been thriving ever since. Dr. Russell, son of longtime Huntsville retired veterinarian Dr. Mark Russell of Whitesburg Animal Hospital, studied at Auburn University and then practiced in Atlanta and Nashville before returning home to open his own practice.
He says he always knew this was his calling. From pulling weeds at his dad’s clinic to working his way up to assistant, his passion for animal care never wavered. Today, he feels energized and grateful every day to care for both pets and people in this community. When he talks about his job, his passion is obvious.
He’s joined by Dr. Jess Mauldin and Dr. Erin Brown, who share his passion for excellent medicine and genuine care. All three doctors also love building strong relationships with their patients and staff.
Dr. Mauldin told me she values the culture deeply, calling it the kindest group she’s ever worked with. Dr. Brown, who has practiced for over 15 years, describes working alongside Dr. Russell and Dr. Mauldin as a breath of fresh air.
Oh, and there’s more! Beyond medical visits, Towne Park also offers boarding, daycare, and some grooming services!
Boarding options for dogs and cats are designed to fit various budgets and preferences. Some dogs enjoy themed suites (Disney, New Orleans, Alabama, Auburn, and more) while cats relax in suites with window seats. Both cats and dogs enjoy plenty of playtime, with daycare pets spending hours outdoors in shaded areas (sometimes with bubbles for extra fun!).
Light grooming services include nail trims, anal gland expression, ear cleaning, and bathing.
The community has quickly recognized Towne Park Animal Care Center as one to watch. They were named the 2024 Huntsville-Madison County Chamber Emerging Business of the Year, and Dr. Russell was voted the 2024 Best Veterinarian by the Huntsville Business Journal.
If you’re looking for a veterinarian in the Huntsville area, I highly recommend scheduling a “meet the doctor” visit and seeing firsthand how wonderful this practice is.
Our area is lucky to have this team, and I feel beyond confident you’ll be thrilled you found them.
