All About Avalon Family Care: A Brand New Medical Practice on Hughes Road

There’s a brand-spankin’ new family medicine clinic on Hughes Road that is eager and excited to meet new patients and serve our community.

Avalon Family Care, located inside the Madison Medical Plaza, swung upon their doors on September 30th after years of dreaming to do so. Dr. Zaunklay Finnila and his wife and practice co-owner Candice couldn’t be more thrilled to finally be operating in Madison and serving the North Alabama area where Candice was raised.

Avalon Family Care is a traditional family medical practice that sees patients ages 2+. Not only do they accept numerous forms of insurance, but they also offer a personalized medicine membership plan for those without insurance or those whose insurance is not accepted.

Dr. Finnila says that these personalized membership plans are available for individuals or whole families and typically cost less than one’s monthly cell phone bill.

Dr. Finnila says that he chose family medicine because he “enjoys the breadth that family medicine covers.”

“From birth to death,” he says. “I enjoy giving patients that experience of really knowing their doctor again.”

Avalon Family Care strives to see patients the same day they call or the next day at the latest.

“We make sure that good, complete healthcare is accessible to everyone,” shared Candice.

Dr. Finnila grew up an Air Force brat and met Candice during their schooling in Louisville. Not only have they both always been highly interested in entrepreneurship, but they’ve both dreamt for years of planting roots in this area “and serving the city that raised me”, shared Candice.

“We really like that this area has a small-town feel with big town vibes.”

“I try really hard to build a good rapport with my patients,” shared Dr. Finnila. “I’ve rotated through doctors’ offices where a patient only spent five minutes with the doctor. I want to give my patients more direct care than that.”

Candice shared that her husband has been complimented on how quickly and efficiently he see patients while also putting in the effort to give them the time they deserve. She says that he strives to be respectful of all of his patients’ time.

“If they want to sit down and talk, I am here to do that,” shared Dr. Finnila.

Another layer to Avalon Family Care that makes them unique is that they hope to offer aesthetic medicine in the near future.

At this time, Avalon Family Care is not conducting COVID-19 tests.

Avalon Family Care is open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
