Five Reasons to Visit Civil Axe Throwing ASAP

This article is written as part of the “Away From Here” series where All Things Madison branches outside of our city and explores destinations for residents to visit when they want to get “away from here”. Today we’re heading over to mega-popular Campus 805 in Huntsville and venturing to Civil Axe Throwing. This is one activity that has to be tried at least once in Huntsville!

Recreational axe throwing has become explosively popular around the globe throughout the last decade for many good reasons!

Huntsville’s very own Civil Axe Throwing officially opened in 2017 and has since welcomed thousands of guests to its indoor facility. Civil Axe Throwing is located on the second floor of Campus No. 805, which is one of North Alabama’s most popular entertainment venues to eat, drink, and enjoy time and activities with friends and family.

I first threw an axe with Civil Axe Throwing when I saw their mobile axe-throwing truck parked at an event I was attending.

I had always wanted to throw an axe and see what the craze was all about, but as soon as I signed my waiver and stepped up to throw, I became nervous and intimidated. Surely I was about to hurt myself (or someone else), right? The Civil Axe instructor was phenomenal though and showed me exactly what to do and how/when to let the axe go a-flyin’!

After throwing my first axe, my nerves completely disappeared and I was ready to throw 100 more axes! I was hooked and wanted to keep doing better!

After my first mobile truck experience, I couldn’t wait to visit their Campus No. 805 location and throw for a while. Again, I was nervous to throw the first one, but my instructor was so great and obviously laughed when I then wanted to continue to throw again and again!

Here are five reasons why Civil Axe Throwing in Huntsville, Alabama is so much fun (and often so addicting in the best way!)

  1. It’s a novelty activity. Axe throwing is something most people haven’t done before, so visiting Civil Axe Throwing is a great opportunity to try something unique and exciting with others.
  2. It’s social. Share a lane with family, friends, or co-workers and share laughs and cheers while attempting to improve your skills. This is a very fun and interactive way to bond with others over a lighthearted activity.
  3. There is a low barrier to entry, meaning this activity doesn’t require any prior experience or specific skills. While you will receive instruction ahead of time with throwing and safety tips, axe throwing is great for those (like me!) who have no idea how to actually throw an axe.
  4. Axe throwing at Civil Axe can be a great way to relieve stress or do something physical.
  5. It’s competitive. Whether you’re competing against those you came with (in a fun way of course!) or simply competing against yourself to do better with each and every throw, Civil Axe Throwing is a great way to stir up a bit of one’s competitive side.

"Number 3: There is a low barrier to entry, meaning this activity doesn’t require any prior experience or specific skills. While you will receive instruction ahead of time with throwing and safety tips, axe throwing is great for those (like me!) who have no idea how to actually throw an axe."
